2011

This year has been a great year in pageants for Bella, her dad is thinking theres been enough pageants, lol. Mommy, of course disagrees. Bella is at the perfect age. She loves to put on her dresses and wear her "tap shoes" dont know why she calls them that but she loves to wear them! And she loves going onstage and dancing, making faces and turning around. She is very silly up there! But she is having so much fun!! I love it! I think its about time she starts going onstage without me, but am too nervous to let her. She is easily distracted and might start playing with decorations or get too close to the edge! Im not really sure what age they want the kids to go on by themselves, and it may actually hurt her. I dont know.  We are taking a break since the Tiny Miss America pageant in Mississippi, mommy is just not made for that kind of traveling! Lol, I like the closer ones =)

Glitz Vs. Natural

Bella has been a mostly natural pageant competitor, however we have dabbled in some glitz pageants. There is something about the sparkly dresses and the beautiful pictures (that usually dont even look like the kids to begin with) that draws me in. We have had lots of fun at the glitz pageants we have attended but they have been lots of work as well! They are also about 10 times more costly and though Ive heard you can win lots more money at a glitz pageant, we have yet to do it. Our luck is better in naturals. I like that in a glitz pageant it is nearly impossible to leave crownless, but at the same time I like that at a natural pageant my daughter has a slimmer chance at a title, lol, more competitive I guess. I definitely feel the draw for
bigger and better which is what glitz offers. Giving all girls the chance to trump not only their age group but larger age groups and all contestants. Its pretty neat. As far as awards go though, we have recieved just as much at a 50.00 natural pageant as we have recieved at a 500.00 glitz pageant. I am glad that Bella and I have gotten to share these experiences and we have pictures from several pageants glitz and natural that will last a lifetime. But if I had to chose, it would definitely be natural. I absolutely love that she does well wearing her Sunday best dress looking exactly the way Bella always looks =) I love that she when she wins its because of what she really looks like and not the talents of a makeup artist, or how many swarvoski crystals I could glue onto her dress or how talented our photo retouches were. I also like that she only has to go onstage once instead of multiple changes and redoing her hair and makeup. For older girls 10 and up who chose to do this I completely see what draws them in but as far as Bella is concerned, I think we will stick with naturals from now on. We definitely cannot hang with those Glitzy girls! We like our naturals too much!

Pageants and Modeling

Well our pageant break lasted approximately 6 weeks! Lol, Bella will be competing in Adorable Miss Gulf Coast June 17th and 18th. FUN~It will be very different from what we are used to, as we usually do natural pageants and this one is glitz. And a national glitz at that! LOTS of experienced competition. Bella really enjoys the stage and we have been working on some new pageant moves that she is having lots of fun with. She loves loves loves for me to put makeup on her lol so no problem there! She is always digging in my eyeshadow and asking me to put lipstick on her, she is too funny. This will be very interesting. Wish us luck!!

While on our break from pageants, I decided to look into modeling for Bella. She was quickly picked up by several placement services including: Gooma Models, Ellie Bean and Models and Adora Models. She has already modeled and been featured by one Boutique~Simple Joys Bowtique and has more jobs in the works now. She really enjoys playing dress up and posing for the camera. She is SUCH a character.

Tough Stuff

Well the ugly side of pageantry has been rearing its head for us lately. We just cant catch a break! So many times it seems that pageants dont go our way, and thats okay, So many different things affect whether Bella wins or even places. Things like what the judges are looking for, what they have already seen, what kind of memory they have, how consistent they score. And thats just on the judges. I never know whether Bella is going to decide when its time to go onstage that she wants something to drink and may just decide to yell for juice the entire time or decides she wants me to hold her because she is tired of standing up. Sometimes she wants to do her pageant moves and make everyone laugh and other times she doesnt. I never know, and I never know what the judges are going to like. And that is more than okay with me. I try to keep Bella's pageant experiences positive, that does not mean winning every time. It means being happy and proud no matter what, and being a good sport and being happy for others when it is their day to shine.
For some reason, many parents do not feel this need to teach their kids proper sportsmanship these days. It seems they would much rather sulk and storm off stage then anonymously say the ugliest things they can think of about babies, parents, directors and judges. Im not sure what they expect to get out of this, maybe a rise out of me is their goal. Well, they sure are getting to me, I wont lie about that. The only thing worse than saying bad things about a baby is hiding behind a computer to do it.
No matter what these people do though, theyre not going to keep us from doing something that we enjoy. I will teach my daughter to overcome the negative by focusing on the positive. Though many careless, negative people may say bad things about her, they are giving our friends and family the opportunity to stand up for us and show us that these people are wrong. Even though they may get to me, they are not dragging me down, they are only showing me what we have that they do not. I am so thankful to all of our Pageant Family who support Bella and I. We are truly blessed to have all of you in our lives.

Thanks for being great =)
